Itinerary:
The name Tambo Colorado comes from the Quechua word Tampu, which means resting place, and it is assumed that the word colorado occurred, because of the color of red paint that was decorated. Colorado was an administrative center built by the Inca culture in the fifteenth century. Because of its great development and expansion, the Inca state was forced to build a military and administrative base throughout the empire, as this would allow them to control subject peoples.
These administrative centers were called Tambos, and also served to store food and resting place for those soldiers who used to travel regularly throughout the empire carrying messages to Cusco.
Tambo Colorado is one of the best preserved Inca ruins in the Peruvian coast, the archaeological complex is composed of several buildings made of adobe, in which highlight passages of Inca style and trapezoidal niches.
